The Cluster Site Supervised Apartment Living (SAL) program is for boys ages 16.5 and older. We have recently expanded the program and have two locations-at the Ross Campus in Johnston and at the Richard O. Jacobson Transitional Living Center in south Des Moines. Youth are expected to have successfully completed a pre-independent living program of some kind, preferably on our Ross Campus, prior to being admitted to the program. There are six units available at the Ross Campus and twelve units at the Richard O. Jacobson Transitional Living Center, staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

While living independently, yet with 24-hour on-site staff availability for support, residents learn basic tasks such as grocery shopping, doing laundry, shopping for and cooking meals, and getting to school or appointments. Our counselors spend face to face time with each youth on a daily basis, checking in on progress and working on skill development, ensuring residents are on the right track.
