Typical Client Characteristics: ·Males age 12 to 18
·Behavioral and/or emotional problems
·Conduct disorder
·Sexual abuse victims or perpetrators
·Emotionally/physically abused
·Verbally and/or physically assaultive
·Learning disabilities or other special education needs.
·Dysfunctional family systems
 
Services Provided: ·A structured living environment in a small group setting
·A safe and secure living environment for at-risk youth by providing remedial services under the state’s Medicaid service plan.
·Community resources for specialized needs
·Comprehensive health services
·Recreation and leisure time activities
·Aftercare Program available for youth returning to home and
family
 
Educational Services Provided:
 
·On grounds school which is staffed by special education teachers who are employed by the Johnston Public Schools.
·GED available when indicated

·Families of youth suffering from, or at risk of, abuse or neglect due to family dysfunction or inadequate parenting skills.
·The families of youth at risk of out-of-home placement due to behavioral, emotional and/or family difficulties
·The families of youth who are waiting for a residential placement opening
·The families or caretakers of youth placed in a foster care setting due to protective concerns
·The families of youth making the transition to their homes from a Youth Homes of Mid-America placement
·The families of youth making the transition to their homes from other residential settings and fitting the profile of youth normally served by Youth Homes of Mid-America

PAL Program A voluntary treatment program for former clients of Youth Homes of Mid-America who have “aged out” of the juvenile justice system but wish to receive some of the treatment services offered. A limited number of persons 18-22 years old are eligible for this program.

·Mentally retarded or developmentally disabled

·Computerized life skills assessment and training program

·Educational services - High School & GED placement
·Vocational services, job training, job development, job placement
·Supervision
·Community resources for specialized needs
